Valparaiso resident Debra Silvert will present a lecture-demonstration titled, “An 1816 Flute – Crystal Clear” at the Porter County Museum, 153 Franklin Street, Valparaiso, on Thursday, September 1 at 5:30p.
Silvert’s four-keyed crystal flute was built in 1816 in Paris by Claude Laurent and is one of fewer than 110 or so still extant, of which only 24 of which are held privately. Silvert’s presentation will cover the history of flutemaking, including the important innovations Laurent flutes contributed to the development of the other woodwind instruments. The program will conclude with a performance by Silvert of Telemann’s “Fantasy in A Major” on this intriguing crystal instrument.
Debra Silvert is the flutist of Duo Sequenza with classical guitarist Paul Bowman, originally from Chesterton. The duo has toured extensively throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Last year, they founded an annual three concert chamber music series at the Memorial Opera House in Valparaiso.
